What Must I Do?

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

This question was asked by the Philippian jailer in Acts 16:30. This is a question that each of us should ask before it is everlastingly too late. The jailer obviously realized that something must be done for saving to take place. The jailer had Paul and Silas to tell him what must be done. Today, We have the Scriptures.  Romans 4:3 asks: …what saith the scriptures?… We MUST turn to the scriptures to answer such a question (2Timothy 3:16). For the answer lies in nothing else.

—THE SCRIPTURES SAY:

YOU MUST HEAR THE WORD:  Romans 10:17 states that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. In Matthew 17:5 we see that God stated: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him”.  And in Hebrews 1:1-2 we read: God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son. We can read in Matthew 28:18 that Christ has ALL authority, this leaves no authority for you and me. Hear Him!

YOU MUST BELIEVE IN CHRIST:  Jesus said, “…for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). The scriptures are sufficient for us to “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God” (John 20:30-31). Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

YOU MUST REPENT OF YOUR SINS:  In Luke 13:3 The Lord said, “…except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish”. In Acts 17:30 we read, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent”.  Repentance is a turning from evil unto God as seen from the example of the men of Nineveh (Matthew 12:41; Jonah 3:5-9).

YOU MUST CONFESS CHRIST:  In Matthew 10:32 Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven”.  In Acts 8:37 we see the confession of the Ethiopian eunuch. And in Romans 10:9-10 we read, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Looking back to Acts 8:37 and the Ethiopian’s confession, Notice that after confessing Christ, He was Baptized (Immersed).

YOU MUST BE BAPTIZED:  Mark 16:16 says, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” When Jews on Pentecost asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37), Peter answered them saying, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…” (Acts 2:38). Baptism, according to the Bible is an immersion in water (Acts 8:36-38).  This immersion puts us into Christ (Galatians 3:27).  If we are IN Christ, we have have salvation (2 Timothy 2:10).

YOU MUST BE FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH: Jesus said in Revelation 2:10, “…be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life”.  Looking at 1 Corinthians 15:58, The Christians at Corinth were told, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord”.

Think on these things.  Have you done these things?

-2 Corinthians 13:5 says “Examine yourselves, Whether ye be in the faith;”…
